STT SnGs

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

A basic poker strategy for just about all online poker tournament play is to play tight early and open up later when the blinds are higher. This has never been truer for single table sit-n-go games. Here’s the logic.

You’re going to get a lot of limpers early on, that limp with garbage since the blinds aren’t so valuable. Well, if they’re not valuable, why limp? Why not wait and catch a premium hand and raise.

The next tip you’ll get is that you’re going to want to limp your pocket pairs lower than TT, especially if you’re in position. You do this for set value. Since when you hit your set 1.) it’s a disguised hand and 2.) it’s bound to pay off about 70% of the time unless your facing set over set or set vs. straight or flush. Both of which are highly unlikely on the flop.

Finally, you get to the late game. SnGs are easy at the late game, your decisions, they become so simple. If you’re high stacked, you bully. If you’re low stacked, you have only two moves, push fold. If you’re calling 200 with a stack of 1000, then you’re just wasting your time. It’s push/fold all the way. Again, because all-in scares people, and two, you can’t be bluffed off an all-in.

Use these simple sit-n-go strategies and you’ll start to see your winnings jump exponentially when you play poker online.

The Worst Poker Mistake

Friday, January 29th, 2010

The worst mistake a poker online player can make is to misread their own hand. It sounds ridiculous, yet it happens regularly – a online poker player mucks the best hand because they misread the board or got confused about their own holdings. It happens more often in limit games where players cannot make big raises, but is possible in any poker game. For instance, a player hits two pair on the flop, which also brings two suited cards. The two-pair player bets and gets called by one poker opponent. The turn is a blank that helps neither player. Again, two-pair bets and gets called. The lack of a re-raise indicates the opponent is most likely drawing to the flush; and sure enough, the river card brings the third card to a suit. Two pair is then flustered by the river card, and the opponent is obviously happy to see it. However, two pair was so afraid of the bad beat flush, that the player fails to realize that the suited card completes the two pair to a full house. Two pair checks, the flush bets, and the best hand goes into the muck. Sometimes player will be hit a low ranked set, like three 4s, on the flop, which also brings a King and a 7. The turn is a blank and the river is another King. The player thinks the low set is now beat by an opponent holding pocket Kings when in fact the set of 4s in now a full house. Never lose sight of the your hand’s potential to improve. Don’t let a scare card that could complete an inferior hand distract your from your own cards.

Hand Analysis: 5-9

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

The 9 to 5 is also known as the Working Girl, the Dolly Parton poker hand, Hard Working man, and probably many local others related to the idea of the working stiff, the 9 to 5 job. Despite its many titles, this isn’t really a hand you’d ever want to show up anywhere with, as the only way it can end up working hard is if you get really lucky, or if you push it without even caring what your cards are. For that reason, the set of nicknames that have attached to it make a good metaphor. But let’s not be dirty brained.

Here’s a good general rule of advice for the 9 to 5 hand: just fold. Fold those poker online cards into the muck and wait for a better set. It doesn’t matter how aggressive you are, or what position you are in, you can’t or probably shouldn’t play every single hand, and this is one of those that might as well just hit the dust. What would you be trying to accidentally make if you raised? A weak pair? A weak backdoor straight? Trips with a weak kicker?

Even if you are the type of player who plays off expectation and doesn’t care what your cards are, people are going to catch up to you, and if they do so while you’re holding this stinker, you’re probably going to be in trouble. Remember this when you play online poker.

The Elottery System Promises a Lottery Prize to Each and Every Participant Playing in the Spanish El Gordo Lottery

Monday, December 14th, 2009

A major event within the Euromillions Euro lotto is the Loteria de El Gordo which you may well wish to learn about. Offering one of the world’s largest jackpots, this game of hazard offers pots up to over two and a half billion Euros. This is not the lottery’s only claim to fame. This lottery puts more than thirteen thousand prizes up for grabs, which ultimately gives you a winner per every six contestants. When compared with the prizes given by other lotteries, that’s nothing to be scorned.

To enter the draw, your first choice is a full ticket, known as a “serie”. There is also a cheaper option; called a “d©cimo” worth one-tenth of a full ticket. Neither alternative is especially cheap, though, and equally neither has a better chance of being a winner. As a result many players of the Euromillions Euro lottery use the e-lottery system.

In the Euromillions Euro lottery there is one draw per month. Richer prizes can be expected from bigger drawings held during three months around the year. More specifically: January’s “El Nio”, the Summer “San Ildefonso”, and held around Christmas, “El Gordo” with Christmas’s Elgordo drawing being the grandest of the lot.

Unlike typical lottery systems, the Elgordo Lottery uses balls sporting five digits apiece ranging from 00,000 to 84,999. Under this system, one ball is drawn from a bowl to determine the winning number and another ball is pulled out of a second bowl to find the prize value.

Using the e-lottery system, you can be sure that you will win a prize. You will automatically be sorted into a team when you buy in with the Elgordo Lottery syndicate. These teams are assigned a number from 1-9, the last digit of the winning number in the draw being used to identify the team which will receive the money. A fair distribution of the spoils among the members follows. In time for the next draw, the syndicate takes subscriptions once again and the e-lottery continues.

Know Your Enemy

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

In any strategic situation, the most important weapon you can wield is information. Often in showdown situations that do not end in brute force, it is the online poker player with the most information, as well as how he applies that information, that will ultimately succeed. There are few situations where this kind of dynamic could be more true than in the world of poker online, where many hands, less than the cards you hold, are determined by a battle of willswho knows what, and how they can force the other player to act in accordance with their wishes.

The mainline to information in a hand is largely based upon past action. Over the course of a session at a table with players, each hand develops a series of signals and responses that, when ordered and applied, add up to a portrait of a way a player can be expected to behave. Though many of the best players are capable of shifting their image to keep this kind of information reliable, the measuring of that shift is also data that can be acquired and applied.

More than simply ‘getting reads,’ then, poker is about learning your opponents patterns. Watching how they act, when, under what conditions, and against whom are all bits of data that continue to develop your edge on a hand to hand basis at the casino.

Bodog Cash Sessions

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Over the past 3 days I have made about $25 grinding out one table of .25/.50 NLHE. While it is obviously not a whole lot of online poker money, sometimes you have to calculate your profit in terms of # of big blinds won. At .50 a BB, $25 is 50 BB’s. That’s actually pretty good. Typically, in No Limit, people tend to lose track of their BB profit in lieu of their goal to double-up. Limit poker games are tougher to score big on, so a more proper gauge of your success is to look at how many “bets” or big blinds you’ve won, either by hour or by session. Even if you go on a heater, and scoop some big pots, if you stay long enough, you have to lose some of it back. Obviously low stakes limit games have a great deal more to do with how well your cards hold up, and higher stakes limit games rely more on position and strategy at the casino online; the bigger the minimum bet, the more people have to think about its value. In No Limit games, people tend to go for bigger scores. They are looking to double up and get out a lot of the time.

Police Drama Television Series

Flashpoint is a Canadian police drama television series that debuted on July 11, 2008, on CTV in Canada and CBS in the United States. The series is broadcast on the French-language network TQS in Quebec since March 9, 2009. The show was created by Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern and stars Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson and Hugh Dillon.

Flashpoint is about an elite tactical unit, called the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), within a Canadian metropolitan police force (styled on the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force). The SRU are tasked to resolve extreme situations that regular officers are not trained to handle including hostage-taking, bomb threats and heavily armed criminals. It is an emotional journey following the lives of members of the SRU (Strategic Response Unit) as they solve hostage situations, bust gangs, and defuse bombs.

The show is about a team of cops that work for the SRU (strategic response unit), they are the ones that go out and are in charge of securing parameters when people are being taken hostage or if a kidnapped child is found as well as several other cases. The team consits of Sgt. Gregory Parker (Enrico Colantoni), the field leader of the team. Further in the team are Ed Lane (Hugh Dillon), Julianna “Jules” Callaghan (Amy Jo Johnson), Sam Braddock (David Paetkau), who is the new guy on the team. Then there are Lou “Lewis” Young (Mark Taylor), Mike ‘Spike’ Scarlatti (Sergio Di Zio), Kevin ‘Wordy’ Wordsworth (Michael Cram). This are the men and women in the Strategic Response Unit who make Toronto safe with the hope of diffusing the situation safely and using force only as a last resort

Don’t 7-10 Split, Bowl Properly with Proper Bowling Supplies

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Maybe you are a recreational bowler hoping to play the game of bowling with new respect. When bowling is the case, you’re in the midsts of a key rebirth in your development as a serious student of the game. My “Next Steps” handbook to the Top 5 Bowling Tips shouldn’t be ignored. Professionals in a nearby bowling pro shop want bowlers harness bowling potential. There’s an old bowling adage, the bowling balls do all the work (after you roll them). I kid. Okay, if only it were that simple. It’s all good, with a little guidance we’ll make sure you’re throwing down the right lane.

You’ll definitely want to get a knowledgeable friend to help you purchase custom fit equipment at your bowling pro shop! Fit is important. It’s no joke, have your personal ball drilled, and you’ll never go back. A correctly fitted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. It’s also important you’re wearing comfortable bowling shoes which actually fit

Since you went ahead and purchased the right bowling equipment, listen to the second best piece of bowling advice: aim how the pros aim. While you stand, don’t shoot for your actual target, the pins. Line up using the points about 15 feet down the lane, like a barrel of a gun. The reason? It is easier to roll through a mark much nearer. To take full advantage, make sure you aim from the a consistent place on the floor every approach. If you do it the same every time you can adjust your marksmanship.

What about massive hooks on the ball, to get their desired pin action? That’s another “Next Steps” bowling hint. The secret is the pricy reactive ball. Actually, serious bowlers pack at least two bowling balls to pull off ridiculous hooks, depending on the type of game and lane. Word of warning: intermediates should not try to be fancy, and steer clear of a ball that is too heavy for you. Some avid bowlers roll bowling balls with advanced composite expert grip. Avoid the temptation, because these pro bowling balls often make even moderately good bowlers seem like they don’t know what they’re doing. With these tips you’re on the right track. A pro from our bowling shop will return next month.

I manage Team “Pindemonium” a group from the guys and gals at a bowling shoes manufacturer near Cincinnati. I chime in with advice to all bowlers at my blog and at the bowling center. Also, I should give a shout out to my team heading into tournament play. Roll on!

Low Straights in POker

Friday, March 6th, 2009

I’ve spent entire poker hands trying to sucker another playing into betting against me when I’ve got a lower straight, only to get burned by his higher straight. Remember that a higher straight draw is always better than a lower straight draw.

If you’ve got a straight or a straight draw in poker, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s very possible that someone else has one two. If you have a 7-8 in your hand, and the flop comes out 9-10-Jack, don’t start partying yet, because there’s a chance that someone at the table is holding a King-Queen, and you can bet that they’ll call your raise and then some.

Things can get even worse-say you’ve got a King-4 and the flop is 7-5-8, and the turn comes out 9. FIrst of all, someone needs to shuffle the deck, but also, your straight might not be worth betting on. All someone needs is one of the four tens in the deck to make your hand obsolete.

If you’ve got the low end of the straight, it’s not the end of the world, you just need to be aware of your situation. Evaluate how the other poker players are playing their hands. Make your reads and if you don’t think that anyone’s made their straight, make a bet and get your money.
